Facility Operations Support, Olympic Oval, Faculty of Kinesiology

Position Overview

The Olympic Oval in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking several Recurring Part-time Facility Operations Support.

This position reports to the maintenace supervisor. Work is performed within the Olympic Oval, a multi-use world-class facility providing services to a client base ranging from the general public to high performance athletes. Provides a support role to the operations department and must be capable of performing any duties required in the operations department. The hours for this position fluctuate based on the events in the building and the applicants will be required to work evenings and weekends.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Operate an ice resurfacing unit, forklift, and edger as well as safe and proper use of tools and equipment
  • Ensures that all required safety procedures are followed when carrying out tasks
  • Ensure a safe training environment for athletes, public and all other users of the Oval
  • First contact for all first aid incidents within the Oval
  • Supervision of up to 3 part time staff in the absence of full time personnel

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Current certification in both First Aid and CPR, qualified, comfortable and competent regarding all first aid decisions
  • Experience and/or ice making and maintenance certification
  • Extensive experience and knowledge within a large speed skating/arena environment ensuring accurate input regarding changing ice and building conditions
  • Experience in building turnovers, willing to work at extreme heights and are able to lift heavy objects
  • Fully qualified and competent to operate various motorized equipment found in an arena environment including proven Zamboni experience
  • A valid Alberta drivers licence is required
