Position Overview

Dinos Athletics in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Coordinator, Digital Media.

Reporting to the Manager, Athletic Operations & Communications, the Coordinator, Digital Media works closely with the Specialist, Marketing and Promotions and other members of the Business Operations team. The position has a broad range of focus areas and target audiences, and is required to meet multiple, simultaneous deadlines throughout the year. The work environment is fast-paced and results-oriented.

The work schedule is 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30am till 4:30pm, with the peak period of work occurring from September 1 through April 30 each year. There is flexibility within the schedule as weekend and evening work will be required during the athletic season. 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Digital & Social Media:

  • Create and implement an annual digital communications plan for the Dinos, identifying target audiences and the best ways to reach them using specialized knowledge in communications and digital media techniques
  • Provide annual metrics and evaluation of this plan
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy for the Dinos, including both a framework for Department social media activities as well as guidelines/requirements for student-athletes on their personal social media activities
  • Creating compelling, timely content, improve presence on social media networks, with year-over-year increases in followership
  • Coordinate and lead video content creation, including in-game highlights, promotional videos, etc
  • Enhance awareness and presence of the Dinos brand both on-campus and in the surrounding community
  • Liaise with official photographer(s) to schedule team photos, player headshots, action photography, and special event photography and coordinate traffic of photo files for archiving
  • Coordinate capture and distribution of game scouting film, using current league-approved system

Events:

  • Provide on-site communications coverage of designated games/events in a variety of sports, including in-game social media, post-game reporting, etc
  • Responsible for in-scope supervision of part-time staff in their daily activities, ensuring proper staffing levels and scheduling to provide required events coverage; may require timesheet coordination on behalf of the Manager
  • Assist with the execution of sponsorship agreements (signage, advertising, video, etc.) as required

Communications & Sports Information:

  • Oversee the development and execution of print publications, including weekly game programs
  • Assist the Manager, Operations and Communications with television, radio, and web broadcast production requirements, as necessary
  • Nominate student-athletes for various league, national, and other awards
  • Assist the Manager, Athletic Operations & Communications with media relations tasks
  • Write and distribute media releases, etc. as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 5 years' work experience in communications, journalism, or public relations, preferably at the University level or in a multi-sport environment, is preferred
  • Experience in broadcast/video production and editing, including proficiency in Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut pro (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in Social Media strategy development and implementation
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated success on multiple platforms, and an ability to present information with professionalism, diplomacy, and tact
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good multitasking and organizational skills
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience working with a website CMS (content management system)
